A Spirited Evening for the Mexic-Arte Museum

The Catrina Ball, a black tie concept event inspired by Mexico’s beloved La Catrina, debuted in grand fashion at the Four Seasons and spirits were soaring! Guests were encouraged to don Calavera Catrina (Day of the Dead) make-up, lush rose crowns, and other themed couture. Cocktail hour offered Patrón libations and massive shadow boxes with "living doll" Catrinas. Dinner hour celebrated the Mexic-Arte Museum’s Young Latino Artists and Civic Leader Mary Ann Thompson Frenk with performances by Patricia Vonne and a jaw-dropping runway show by Midi Soliz. La fiesta continued after dinner on the dance floor with latin jazz and salsa by The Brew and house beats by DJ Adriana Lucia from Monterrey, MX.

This year marks the debut of the Catrina Ball, a black tie masquerade concept event in celebration of Mexico’s beloved La Catrina. La Calavera Catrina (“The Elegant Skull”) is a 1913 zinc etching by Mexican printmaker José Guadalupe Posada and is most often incorporated into artistic manifestations of el Día de los Muertos (the Day of the Dead). In addition to elegant and adventurous ball dress, guests are encouraged go all out and don Calavera/ Día de los Muertos makeup, masks, lush rose crowns or other themed couture in the style of La Catrina. The Mexic-Arte Museum, Catrina Ball Co-Chairs Laurel and Edgar Prats and Patricia Vonne, and their event partners aim to truly “keep the spirits alive” with the goal of making the Catrina Ball an annual legacy event and fashion extravaganza attended by Austin’s most influential luminaries and supporters of the arts for years to come. This event supports education & exhibition programs. Filmed and Edited by Jeff Zavala and Grace Alfar Video Produced by ZGraphix Productions http://zgraphix.org

"Brooke - your attention to detail is like no other, and those details are what make the event! I can't tell you how many comments I heard about how gorgeous the red rosette linens were; how cool/fun the shadow boxes were; how amazing the band was - people would not stop dancing and they kept asking for more, even after the band was done playing!! The Catrina Ball logo on the dessert looked gorgeous -and those place cards that you HAND MADE...are you kidding me?! I. CAN’T. EVEN. Seriously, standing ovation!"
